Being in a Relationship Can Change How We See Ourselves

Have you ever noticed people becoming more okay with how they look when involved in a romantic relationship?

From an early age, people start developing thoughts about their physical appearance. These perceptions of self are often influenced by outside factors like who you hang out with, your extracurricular activities, and the type of support system you have.

A recent study collected data from a sample of 344 people in Poland, half of them being women. Two-thirds of the participants were involved in a romantic relationship. The participants were split off into two groups, overweight and standard weight, which was determined by body mass index (BMI).

Single individuals with high BMI were found to have lower body appreciation in comparison to normal weight individuals. However, overweight individuals in a romantic relationship expressed similar levels of positivity about how they look as those who are considered to be normal-weight. Being in a romantic relationship can help boost self-esteem and body appreciation for not only for someone who is overweight, but for anyone in general.

If you are unhappy with yourself and dislike what is happening in your life, then you may see yourself with a more negative outlook. On the other hand, if you are happy and have a lot of loved ones around you then that will reflect positively on how you see yourself. To make a positive change in our lives, we should try to be surrounded by people who make us feel loved and better about ourselves.
